President Joe Biden has challenged former President Donald Trump to two debates. While he rejected a schedule proposed by the nonpartisan commission that usually puts together face-offs of candidates in the fall, Biden said on Monday that he is up for a debate with his top political rival.

The president made his intentions known in a video in which he said that Trump “hasn’t shown up for a debate” since he “lost” to him in the presidential debates in 2020 when they first campaigned against each other.

“Now he is acting like he wants to debate me again. Well, make my day, pal. I’ll even do it twice,” Biden stated, adding, “So let’s pick the dates, Donald. I hear you’re free on Wednesdays.”

By suggesting a Wednesday for the debate, Biden referred to Trump’s hush money trial in New York City where he usually appears in court all weekdays save for Wednesday.

Around the same time Biden’s video dropped, the Biden campaign sent a letter to Commission on Presidential Debates informing the nonpartisan group that he would not participate in its debate plan which is scheduled to begin in mid-September.

The team proposed late June and early September instead for presidential debates and suggested that a presidential debate should be held in late July.

Biden campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon tried to make the claim that the dates set by the Commission on Presidential Debates would allow for “noisy spectacles” and would have debates come after the start of early voting.

Dillon also argues that the commission has a track record of failing to enforce its own rules to ensure an “orderly” process.

Trump has indicated that he would accept the dates proposed by Biden, having challenged the president to a debate for months.

In a post to Truth Social, he wrote, “Crooked Joe Biden is the WORST debater I have ever faced – He can’t put two sentences together! Crooked is also the WORST President in the history of the United States, by far. It’s time for a debate so that he can explain to the American People his highly destructive Open Border Policy, new and ridiculous EV Mandates, the allowance of Crushing Inflation, High Taxes, and his really WEAK Foreign Policy, which is allowing the World to ‘Catch on Fire.’”

“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September. I would strongly recommend more than two debates and, for excitement purposes, a very large venue, although Biden is supposedly afraid of crowds – That’s only because he doesn’t get them. Just tell me when, I’ll be there. ‘Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!’” he added.

Trump did not say anything about Biden’s suggested debate rules.
