Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has officially thrown his weight behind former President Donald Trump for a second term as President of the United States. The endorsement came during a campaign event held in Edinburg, a city situated just 30 miles from the Mexico border.

Addressing the crowd, Abbott emphasized the urgent need for a leader who will prioritize border security and restore law and order in the country. “We need a president who is going to secure the border,” he declared, adding, “We need a president who is going to restore law and order in the United States of America, not letting these criminals run ransack over the stores that you see images of almost nightly.”

Abbott went on to stress the importance of restoring world peace, contrasting it with what he described as an “outbreak of warfare” during the current administration.

When Trump spoke, he expressed his gratitude for Abbott’s endorsement, describing it as a “tremendous honor” and reiterating his commitment to securing the border. He once again pledged to build the border wall, assuring Abbott that it would make his job “much easier,” as he firmly believes that “walls work.”

Prior to the campaign event, Trump and Abbott served meals to Texas National Guardsmen, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers and other personnel stationed at the border as part of Abbott’s pre-Thanksgiving tradition. The former president, who handed out tacos, shook hands and posed for pictures with those on duty, commending their dedication.

Acknowledging the sacrifices made by the Guard members and Texas troopers, Abbott pointed out that they should ideally be at home. He attributed their presence at the border to the lack of border security under the Biden administration.

“They should not be here at this time. The only reason why they are here is because we have a president of the United States of America who is not securing our border,” the governor stated.

Later that afternoon, Abbott took to X to announce his decision to endorse Trump for the 2024 presidential nomination. In a post, he stated, “Today, I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President. Now more than ever, America needs a President who will secure the border and prioritize national security. President Trump is the clear choice to get the job done.”
