Former President Donald Trump responded to the DeSantis campaign’s persistent attacks on his mental health. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his campaign have been making attempts to shift gears and raise concerns about Trump’s mental acuity, mirroring the ongoing debate over President Joe Biden’s cognitive fitness.

For weeks, DeSantis and his campaign have seized on moments when Trump inadvertently referred to “Obama” instead of “Biden.” Trump, however, has clarified that he intentionally uses this phrasing as a pointed commentary, suggesting that others may be exerting significant influence behind the scenes in Biden’s presidency.

In a post on Truth Social, he wrote, “Whenever I sarcastically insert the name Obama for Biden as an indication that others may actually be having a very big influence in running our Country, Ron DeSanctimonious and his failing campaign apparatus, together with the Democrat’s Radical Left’ Disinformation Machine,’ go wild saying that ‘Trump doesn’t know the name of our President, (CROOKED!) Joe Biden. He must be cognitively impaired.’”

In addition to defending his linguistic choices, Trump pointed out that he had already taken a cognitive test as part of his physical exam and “ACED it.” “Also ACED (a perfect score!) one taken while in the White House,” he added.

He then challenged Biden, who is now 81, to do the same, stating, “Biden should take one so we can determine why he wants Open Borders, No Energy Independence, A Woke Military, High Inflation, No Voter I.D., Men playing In Women’s Sports, Only Electric Cars & Trucks, A Weaponized DOJ/FBI, and so many other CRAZY things!!!”

Trump’s statement followed a list of what the DeSantis War Room’s account on X calls Trump’s “fumbles,” including his use of “Obama” instead of “Biden.”

“Here is a running list of every one of Donald Trump’s fumbles, accidents, and confused moments from this year,” the campaign wrote in a thread.

Aside from using “Obama” instead of “Biden,” the campaign accused the GOP front runner of “referring to the Biden Administration as the “Obama Administration” — without catching himself.”

Despite these attacks, Trump continues to dominate in polls, leading DeSantis by double digits in South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Iowa. Trump’s lead continues after DeSantis has secured huge endorsements in recent weeks, including that of Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds and prominent Iowa evangelical leader Bob Vander Pleats.
