Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro recently offered an interesting theory on why former President Donald Trump is currently ahead of President Joe Biden in recent polls. In an interview with NBC News, Shapiro shared his thoughts on Trump’s polling advantage and his expectations for the 2024 presidential election.
According to him, Trump’s lead is a result of some sort of “brain fog” among voters. “I’m not sure folks remember just how chaotic it was, how divisive it was, how he was just in your face in your living room every day. I don’t think people want to go back to that,” he asserted, insisting that the current polling results simply “speak to the worry that a lot of people feel.”

Shapiro went on to express optimism that as the presidential race progresses, Biden’s polling will witness a surge.
“My expectation is that as the race joins and there’s a real competition of ideas and of approach, the president will be in a much stronger position,” he stated.
When asked about the possibility of a younger person becoming the Democratic Party’s nominee for the presidency in 2024, Shapiro firmly asserted that the race would ultimately come down to Joe Biden versus Donald Trump.
He expressed his commitment to see to Trump’s defeat, pledging, “And I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure Donald Trump is defeated.
For the governor, who is reportedly gearing up for a 2028 presidential bid, a second Trump presidency should not be allowed to happen.
“If Donald Trump is given the opportunity to get the keys to the White House again, he’s even more dangerous the second time around, because he and the team around him know how to operate the levers of government,” he stated. “He’s told us that he understands how to do it, and he’s going to use that to prosecute his enemies. I know what the reality is. And the reality is it’ll be the two of them, barring some unforeseen circumstance, squaring off.”
The Democrat’s fear for Trump’s prospect comes as the former president is widely expected to secure the Republican presidential primary nomination and challenge Biden in a rematch of the 2020 election. Recent polling data indicates Trump’s strong position within the GOP, with an average lead of 46% in national primary polls and a substantial lead in Iowa polls, according to RealClearPolitics.
Additionally, Trump is currently ahead of Biden in NBC’s national poll for the 2024 election. He also leads in several swing state polls, including those conducted by the New York Times and Siena College, while also maintaining a lead both within and outside the margin of error in various national polls released this month by major organizations like Morning Consult, The Economist/YouGov, and Reuters/Ipsos.
