After Team USA’s women’s gymnastics team won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Simone Biles delivered a perfect response to a former teammate’s comment.
Biles, the most decorated American gymnast of all time, appeared to give a response to MyKayla Skinner’s comments last month about Olympic gymnasts “work ethic.”
“Lack of talent, lazy, olympic champions ❤️🥇🇺🇸,” Biles captioned the team’s winning photo.
“Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn’t like what it used to be. Just notice like, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don’t work as hard. The girls just don’t have the work ethic,” Skinner said in a since-deleted YouTube video, which has since gone viral on X.
Posting to her Instagram on July 6, Skinner wrote: “It was not my intention to offend or disrespect any of the athletes or take away from their hard work. Your hard work and dedication has paid off and I congratulate each and every one of you.”
The US team defeated Italy and Brazil in Paris, claiming the silver and bronze medals.
The gold medal was a big bounce back from the disappointment in Tokyo four years ago. It also added to Biles’ haul — now five career Olympic golds, one silver and two bronze.
Biles has the individual all-around finals to look forward to on August 1 as she is eligible for up to four more medals.
Biles referred to the 2024 Olympics as a potential “redemption tour” for US women, which finished second in Tokyo this past summer.
