The New York City Police Department is reportedly preparing to revoke former President Donald Trump’s concealed carry license after he was found guilty of 34 felony charges at his hush money trial in Manhattan.

This comes after the license was suspended in April 2023 after his indictment. As reportedly by CNN, a senior NYPD official said that Trump surrendered two pistols he was licensed to carry last year. Howerer, another gun listed on his license was reportedly moved to Florida legally.

The official revealed that an investigation by the NYPD’s Legal Bureau “will likely lead to revocation” of Trump’s license, as it is a federal crime for him to possess a firearm after his conviction. He, however, could challenge such a decision in a hearing.

The Republican presidential candidate is also looking to appeal the conviction entirely, as he and his allies have criticized the trial and entire case as a politically motivated one.

In an interview with NBC News on Sunday, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) voiced his disagreement with the jury’s verdict and noted that the case was rigged, from the prosecution to the judge who handed instructions to the jury on how to reach a decision on whether Trump was guilty or not.

“A jury can only act within the constraints that a judge puts on it, and this case was rigged from the very beginning,” Cotton stated, adding, “You had Alvin Bragg, who campaigned on getting Donald Trump. You had the judge, who’s a literal Biden donor, and at every turn he ruled in favor of the prosecution. … He never even insisted the prosecution reveal the alleged underlying crime for which Donald Trump supposedly covered up in – in bookkeeping entries. At every turn the judge put his finger on the scales, practically forcing the jury to find – to reach this outcome. … there’s no question Donald Trump should win on appeal.”

Amid the numerous people who spoke up for him, Trump’s former rivals in the Republican Party presidential primary also defended him, with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis taking to X to argue that the jury’s decision “represents the culmination of a legal process that has been bent to the political will of the actors involved: a leftist prosecutor, a partisan judge and a jury reflective of one of the most liberal enclaves in America — all in an effort to ‘get’ Donald Trump.”

“That this case — involving alleged misdemeanor business records violations from nearly a decade ago — was even brought is a testament to the political debasement of the justice system in places like New York City. This is especially true considering this same district attorney routinely excuses criminal conduct in a way that has endangered law-abiding citizens in his jurisdiction,” he added in reference to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who led the prosecution.
