Amid the fight between Texas officials and the Biden administration over Texas’ efforts to protect its border with Mexico, former President Donald Trump is calling on Republican governors to deploy their National Guard soldiers and help Texas remove migrants across its border.
In a post on Truth Social, he wrote, “We encourage all willing States to deploy their guards to Texas to prevent the entry of Illegals, and to remove them back across the Border. All Americans should support the commonsense measures by Texas authorities to protect the Safety, Security, and Sovereignty of Texas, and of the American people.”
Trump also wrote in his post that Texas Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to declare invasion was the right call amid the “National Security, Public Safety, and Public Health Catastrophe” she faces.
Trump’s comments follow a joint statement from 25 Republican governors backing Texas’ efforts to secure its border.
“President Biden and his Administration have left Americans and our country completely vulnerable to unprecedented illegal immigration pouring across the Southern border. Instead of upholding the rule of law and securing the border, the Biden Administration has attacked and sued Texas for stepping up to protect American citizens from historic levels of illegal immigrants, deadly drugs like fentanyl, and terrorists entering our country,” the statement read.
The governors made it clear that their support for Abbott’s moves is partly “because the Biden Administration is refusing to enforce immigration laws already on the books and is illegally allowing mass parole across America of migrants who entered our country illegally.”
The governors added that Texas has a right of self defense, as granted by the U.S. Constitution, pointing out that the state “has every legal justification to protect the sovereignty of our states and our nation” given that the Biden administration has “abdicated its constitutional compact duties to the states.”
In addition to the joint statement, some of the governors have also spoken individually in support of Texas.
Speaking to Fox News on Thursday Night, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem vowed to supply Texas with even more razor wire if President Joe Biden and his federal forces stop Texas officials from retaining control of a park in Eagle Pass.
If @GregAbbott_TX needs more razor wire, I’ll load it into a pickup myself. pic.twitter.com/pOyo5mXtFp
