Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) has slammed Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) for saying he is willing to work in former President Donald Trump’s cabinet should he win next year’s election.

During an interview with CBS News on Sunday, McCarthy had said yes to the idea of serving in a second Trump administration.

“Would you be willing to serve in a Trump cabinet?” reporter Robert Costa asked the former speaker.

In response, he said, “In the right position.”

“Look, if I’m the best person for the job. Yes. Look, I worked with President Trump on a lot of policies. We worked together to win the majority. But we also have a relationship where we’re very honest with one another,” he added.

Now, Cheney says McCarthy’s position “is pathetic.”

“It’s pathetic. There’s sort of an element of– it doesn’t really matter what Donald Trump has done to the country, what Donald Trump has done to the Congress, Donald Trump has done to Kevin McCarthy,” she said in an MSNBC interview on Monday.

Host Jen Psaki butted in, “To him!”

Then, Cheney continued, saying, “Yeah, it’s just kind of, you know, going back for more. And I think it’s– I think it’s sad, but I also think history’s going to show that Kevin’s unwillingness to do the right thing and you know, sort of each time that decision came, did real damage.”

During the CBS interview, McCarthy had backed Trump’s candidacy, stating that the GOP presidential hopeful will win his reelection bid.

“I will support the president. I will support President Trump,” he declared.

He had also said that Trump winning the election would lead to Republicans widening their majority in the House and securing control of the Senate. He, however, is planning to vacate his seat in Congress by the end of the year in order to “serve America in new ways.”
