A group of House Republicans are making efforts to get former President Donald Trump a Congressional Gold Medal.

According to a draft of a resolution obtained by Fox News, the Republicans are trying to recognize Trump for “his exceptional leadership and dedication to strengthening America’s diplomatic relations during his presidency.”

The resolution is being led by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-LA) and supported by up to six other House Republicans, including House GOP Chief Deputy Whip Guy Reschenthaler (R-PA).

Speaking to Fox News about the effort, Luna touted Trump’s ability to keep Americans safe, saying, “Despite the liberal media’s attempts to spread fear, America and the world were undoubtedly safer under President Donald Trump.”

“One of our duties in Congress is to honor those who have contributed significantly to our nation, and that’s why I’m introducing this legislation,” she said further.

Former presidents, including George Washington, Ronald Reagan, Harry Truman, Ulysses S. Grant and Gerald Ford have received gold medals from Congress in the past. Hence, the idea to honor Trump with the award is not off. However, the resolution has a slim chance of success given that Republicans have a narrow control of the House and Democrats lead the Senate.

The gold medal is only one of the ways Trump’s Republican supporters in Congress have tried to honor him. Reschenthaler spearheaded an effort last month to rename Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia to the Donald J. Trump International Airport.

The legislation that sought to see that happen was cosponsored by Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Chuck Fleischmann (R-TN), Mike Waltz (R-FL) and Barry Moore (R-AL).

“In my lifetime, our nation has never been greater than under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump. As millions of domestic and international travelers fly through the airport, there is no better symbol of freedom, prosperity, and strength than hearing ‘Welcome to Trump International Airport’ as they land on American soil,” Reschenthaler told Fox News.

However, Democrats came up with a counter legislation few days after the resolution to rename the airport after Trump. The bill, introduced by Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-VA), Rep. John Garamendi (D-CA), and Rep. Jared Moskowitz (D-FL), sought to rename Miami Federal Correctional Institution to “Donald J. Trump Federal Correctional Institution.”

“When our Republican colleagues introduced their bill to rename Dulles after Donald Trump, I said the more fitting option would be to rename a federal prison,” Connolly said in a press release.
