President Joe Biden has been wrapped in controversy since news broke that eight suspected ISIS-linked terrorists, who illegally crossed the southern border into the United States, were arrested last weekend. The arrests were reportedly made in New York City, Philadelphia and Los Angeles by Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents.

According to The New York Post, which broke the story, part of the investigation that uncovered the terrorists “featured a wiretap which revealed one of the now-arrested individuals was talking about bombs.”

Per the report, at least two of the suspects entered the country last spring. One of them was said to have claimed asylum using the Biden administration’s CBP One app.

While The Post reported that six of the men were said to be from Russia, NBC News said all eight were from Tajikistan.

The report sparked a wave of social media backlash for Biden.

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott wrote, “Joe Biden’s open border policies endanger the lives of Americans. He’s letting in dangerous criminals and people with ties to terrorist organizations like ISIS. We need a president who will put national security FIRST.”

“I am not shocked this happened — we’ve seen this coming from a mile away. For over a year, I’ve been saying this is the most susceptible America has been to a terrorist attack since 9/11/01. This is a direct result of Joe Biden’s border policies,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) stated.

Sen. Bill Hagerty (R-TN) also weighed in to call the report “an unbelievable indictment of Biden’s policy of catch-and-release as long as no negative information immediately pops up.”

“Erring on the side of releasing people from Tajikistan who show up at the U.S.-Mexico border—and who we know nothing about—is insane,” he wrote further.

Tying the incident to his Democrat opponent, Sen. Bob Casey’s (D-PA) record of supporting Biden’s open border policies, Republican Pennsylvania Senate candidate Dave McCormick wrote, “Suspected terrorists with ties to ISIS illegally crossed the southern border and set up shop right here in Philadelphia. The potential for catastrophe is massive, and Bob Casey owns it with his support of open borders.”
