Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) criticized the New York City Police Department’s dance teams. But her concerns are nothing about crime but about “how many school music programs got defunded for this,” as she pointed out on X.

While the video shared of the dance teams performing for the local PIX 11 news station generated widespread condemnation online, with many pointing out that the NYPD should be focused on combating crime and enforcing the law, many did not resonate with Ocasio-Cortez’s angle and blasted her for it.

“How many school music programs could we fund if we got rid of useless, harmful politicians like you?” a user asked.

“Isn’t this the type of police that you like, the ones who don’t actually enforce laws,” a second person asked the Democratic lawmaker who has strongly called for the defunding of the police.

“Don’t act like you care about schools, when you’re kicking out students to house illegals because you and your ilk won’t close the border,” a third user challenged.

Another user noted that Democrats do not have the right to complain, writing, “Don’t you dare complian about ANYTHING your Democrat left wing loon controlled New York does! The entire state, especially NYC has been destroyed because of insane policies. Now, watch businesses start getting the hell out of NYC in record speed! Enjoy the hellhole!

Rep. Anthonio D’Esposito (R-NY) also weighed in with a screenshot that explained that the NYPD does not use taxpayer dollars for the team. “We understand you’re strangely obsessed with attacking police officers, but your constituents deserve the truth,” he wrote.

While the dance video received tons of backlash from both sides of the political aisle, Ocaio-Cortez’s criticism was not welcome due to her general vendetta against the police. In April 2023, she spoke against the increment of police salaries, railing against how most officers get “paid more than a teacher with a master’s degree serving the same kids involved in the same incidents.”

“We are defunding safety, defunding our public schools, defunding our public pools, defunding our parks, defunding our libraries, when we are taking all of those resources, and demanding that every single department, except the militarized one, be cut,” she stated at the time.
