Vice President Vance addressed the ongoing transformation of border security during his visit to Eagle Pass, Texas, acknowledging that while significant progress has been made in reversing the previous administration’s policies, complete restoration will take time.

During discussions with Blaze Media, Vance emphasized how the current administration is rebuilding immigration enforcement capabilities that were dismantled under Biden’s leadership, stating, “President Biden gutted the entire immigration enforcement machine of this country. We are trying to rebuild so that we actually empower people to enforce the immigration laws. … It is common sense. It’s what the American people want us to do.”

Accompanied by Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, Vance met with Texas Governor Greg Abbott and local officials to evaluate improvements and remaining challenges. He highlighted the financial aspects of deportation operations, emphasizing the administration’s focus on tax reform and resource allocation.

The administration’s efforts have yielded remarkable results, with illegal border crossings plummeting from 10,000 daily encounters during the Biden era to approximately 300 today. This dramatic reduction has particularly benefited border communities like Eagle Pass.

Representative Tony Gonzales praised the improvements, stating, “President Trump has brought a breath of fresh air to Texas and the country. My district has been at the epicenter of this crisis — overnight, communities along the border like Eagle Pass, Del Rio, and El Paso are now safer due to common-sense border policy changes by the White House. Much more has to be done, but America is finally headed on the right track.”

Director Gabbard revealed concerning intelligence about an ISIS-affiliated smuggling network that operated during the previous administration, noting, “The rest of them were released back into our country. Where are they? What are they doing? What may they be plotting? This is just the beginning. There are many, many areas where we need to stay focused on.”

The administration’s approach includes implementing tariffs on Mexico and Canada to combat fentanyl trafficking. Vance defended this strategy, suggesting it would ultimately benefit Mexico by preventing cartel dominance. In response, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum plans to announce retaliatory tariffs on U.S. goods during an upcoming address in Mexico City’s Zócalo.
