Pop singer Taylor Swift has said she was “completely in shock” by a tragic mass stabbing that occurred Monday at a dance class inspired by her music near Liverpool, England.
Three girls lost their lives in the devastating accident while eight of them were seriously injured.
The 14-time Grammy winner expressed her thoughts on Instagram Story early Tuesday morning followed by news of continued tragedy.
“The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock.. The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders. These were just little kids at a dance class. I’m at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families.”
The assault happened when a 17-year-old whose name hasn’t yet been released, arrived at the dance workshop by taxi and started attacking children as well as parents who then stepped in.
Two children were later confirmed dead and nine others, including six in critical condition, by Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy just hours after the tragedy.
Responding officers “were shocked to find that multiple people, many of whom were children, had been subjected to a ferocious attack and had serious injuries,” Kennedy said in a press conference.
Authorities currently don’t have a motive or any connection between the suspect and victims. They are not treating the attack as terrorist related.
In the days following the incident, Swift’s fans have raised more than $25,000 for families of victims.
King Charles, too, offered his condolences: “We send our most heartfelt condolences, prayers and deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones of those who have so tragically lost their lives, and to all those affected by this truly appalling attack.”
Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton shared: “As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through. We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack. Thank you also to the emergency responders who, despite being met with the most horrific scenes, demonstrated compassion and professionalism when your community needed you most. W & C.”
