An Israeli father expressed mixed emotions after Hamas released a propaganda video showing his son Edan Alexander, who was captured during the October 7 attack.
Speaking exclusively with The Post, Adi Alexander of Tenafly described watching his 20-year-old son’s appearance as both heartening and distressing. “It’s exciting and disturbing at the same time,” Adi told The Post. “He looked good. He spoke well. It’s a sign of life.”
Edan Alexander is a US citizen from New Jersey. Today Hamas released this torture video of him. It’s been over 400 days. What the fuck is this administration doing about American citizens held hostage in Gaza? Why are they still there? How is an internationally renowned terror… pic.twitter.com/v3NXZSsxio

In Tel Aviv, Edan’s mother revealed that Prime Minister Netanyahu contacted her post-video release, suggesting favorable conditions for her son’s return.
The recent cease-fire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah has sparked optimism about potential negotiations with Hamas. Adi noted his son appeared pale in the footage, likely from extended underground captivity in Gaza.
Edan, serving with the IDF near Gaza, was among those taken when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and 250 abductions. Currently, 101 hostages remain captive, including seven American-Israeli citizens.
The propaganda video showed Edan identifying himself and acknowledging his 420-day captivity before delivering forced messages to Netanyahu and Trump while visibly distressed.
Adi found hope in his son’s reference to Trump’s November election, confirming his survival. He believes Trump’s potential return to presidency could expedite hostage releases and cease-fire negotiations.
Recounting his meeting with Trump at Rabbi Schneerson’s burial site, Adi emphasized Trump’s concern for American hostages.

At Sunday’s Manhattan rally, Adi addressed 300 supporters near Central Park. “I am not just a father but the voice of my son and the other 101 hostages whose lives hang in a balance. I stand here after seeing my son alive for the first time in over a year thanks to this propaganda video released by Hamas,” he said as protesters chanted, “Bring Them Home!”
He urged both current and future administrations to take decisive action, calling for Biden to negotiate immediately and Trump to act before taking office.
Rally organizer Dana Cwaigrich praised Edan’s dedication as a lone soldier, while Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine expressed empathy for the family’s ordeal.
