In a remarkable turn of events, a missing child whose disappearance was spotlighted on Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries” has been discovered in Douglas County, Colorado, seven years after his kidnapping.

The unexpected discovery occurred when law enforcement responded to reports of a potential burglary at an unoccupied house listed for sale. Upon arriving at the scene, deputies found two children waiting in a car parked in the driveway. One of these children was later identified as Abdul Aziz Khan, who had been missing since 2017.

As officers investigated, they encountered two adults emerging from the property who claimed to have permission from a realtor to be there. After a lengthy four-hour process of attempting to verify their identities, investigators made a shocking discovery: the woman was Rabia Khalid, 40, who had an outstanding kidnapping warrant, accompanied by her 42-year-old husband, Elliot Blake Bourgeois.

The story began in Atlanta, Georgia, when Khan was just seven years old. His non-custodial mother, Khalid, was scheduled to appear at a custody hearing but instead fled with her son and Bourgeois, her new husband at the time. This occurred during an ongoing custody dispute with her former spouse, Abdul.

Despite extensive efforts by U.S. Marshals, who conducted searches across 11 different states, the case remained unsolved until this fortuitous discovery.

Both Khalid and Bourgeois now face serious legal consequences. They were transported to Douglas County Jail, with Khalid facing nine charges including second-degree kidnapping, forgery, and identity theft. Bourgeois faces 14 charges, and both individuals have been assigned $1 million bonds.

“We’re overwhelmed with joy that Aziz has finally been found,” Khan’s family said in a statement. “We want to thank everyone for their support over the last seven years. We specifically want to recognize the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their exceptional work in solving this case. Now, as we navigate the next steps, we ask for privacy so that we can move forward as a family and heal together.”
