The plane carrying former President Donald Trump was forced to make an emergency landing on Friday after experiencing engine failure. The surprising moment took place as Trump was heading to a campaign rally in the state at Bozeman’s Montana State University campus’ Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
It was an unscheduled stop in a town about 150 miles east of Bozeman. Trump’s flight distraction was short-lived and the Republican presidential nominee flying in for a major rally designed to boost support both for him but also even more importantly Tim Sheehy, the GOP senate hopeful in Montana.
KTVH, a local news station in the state also said that the Secret Service immediately went through and did an official sweep of the Billings airport as soon as Karpovtsev landed his plane.
That security procedure was done just before Mr. Trump disembarked his plane. After the check, Trump then switched to a smaller plane and continued on his way toward Bozeman. The entire spectacle was chronicled in a tweet by Doug Mills, a photographer for The New York Times who shared an image of Trump stepping off his plane upon arrival in Billings.
The Bozeman rally was one of the latest campaign stops for Trump as he tries to buoy Tim Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL who is trying to unseat incumbent Democratic Senator Jon Tester in what are two highly-watched Senate races.
“Following a mechanical issue on his plane, @realDonaldTrump walks off his plane in Billings MT, to get on a smaller plane, to continue to Bozeman for a fundraiser and rally,” Doug Mills posted on X.
