Jon Stewart recently commented on President-elect Donald Trump’s Cabinet selections, suggesting these appointees were chosen specifically to fulfill Trump voters’ desires to dismantle government agencies.

“When we say, I don’t think that Linda McMahon will be an efficient steward of the Department of Education, it’s like, right, she’s not there to do that,” Stewart stated on “The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart.”

“She’s there to help, like, dismantle it in the same way that RFK Jr. is there to dismantle HHS.”

Stewart reflected on longstanding criticisms of bureaucracy, noting, “They ran on, ‘These institutions are not serving.'”

“It’s the thing that we’ve been hammering Democrats on for decades. These bureaucracies have to be addressed, and they didn’t do it, and they weren’t able to do it efficiently, and they weren’t able to do it agilely … they’re suddenly governing with urgency.”

Trump’s Cabinet appointments have proceeded at an unprecedented pace compared to previous administrations. His recent nominations include Pam Bondi for Justice Department leadership, following Matt Gaetz’s withdrawal amid controversy. Additionally, he selected Linda McMahon for Education Secretary, Dr. Mehmet Oz to oversee health insurance programs, and Howard Lutnick for Commerce Secretary.

Stewart observed that these selections align with both Trump supporters’ expectations and some Democratic voters’ desires for governmental reform, saying, “These picks are there to do exactly what the Trump voters wanted them to do, and in a large degree, a lot of Democratic voters have been begging the Democrats to do — which is get out of this status quo, institutional thinking — and make government more responsive and agile if you can.”
