Lara Trump has stepped down from her position as Co-Chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC), making the announcement through social media on Sunday. The move has intensified discussions about her potential candidacy for Florida’s Senate seat, which may become available as Senator Marco Rubio is expected to become Secretary of State in Donald Trump’s administration.
In her farewell message, she shared her thoughts on her RNC leadership experience, saying: “Serving as the GOP co-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life.

At the RNC, we had three distinct goals:
1) surpass all fundraising records
2) build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity
and, 3) turn out millions of Americans and low prepencity voters during early voting.
We accomplished all three.
The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting.
Thank you to our incredible team at the RNC, our amazing Chairman Whatley, and, of course, thank you to President Donald Trump — we are so proud of you and I’m grateful you trusted me in this position.”
When speaking with AP about the possibility of running for Senate, Lara expressed openness to the idea. “It is something I would seriously consider,” she told AP in an interview. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”
During a Fox News appearance with Howard Kurtz, she discussed the implications of her family name in politics. When asked about whether being a Trump was an asset for the potential Senate appointment, she responded: “Well, some may say it’s an asset, some may say it’s not an asset. I think it depends on how you look at it. Certainly, you know, we’ve all had the opportunity over the past nine years to fully involve ourselves in politics, to understand the American people and what they want. And we’ve all been residents of the state of Florida now for over three years. If that’s something that’s put in front of me, it would be a true honor.

But, yeah, look, I think probably my last name does heighten my political profile a little bit. But I’ve got a proven track record. I’ve been co-chair of the RNC during the most consequential election of our lifetime. We were so proud of what we did at the RNC—making sure there was election integrity, getting the early vote out, turning out low-propensity voters, and raising huge amounts of money.
So I would say that my track record speaks for itself. Maybe having the last name Trump is just a little bit extra. I’m always happy to have it.”
