August boasted a return to the north side of $300 million in fundraising by Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign, further trouncing former President Donald Trump.
Harris’ operation said it had brought in $361 million during the month, with a total haul of cash-on-hand to close August at nearly $404 million for her campaign committees, joint fundraising outfit and party arm.
That compared with $130 million for Trump’s campaign and affiliated committees in August, as the president saw a slight dip from his July total of 8.7 million. They ended the month with $295 million in cash.

“In just a short time, Vice President Harris’ candidacy has galvanized a history-making, broad, and diverse coalition – with the type of enthusiasm, energy, and grit that wins close elections,” campaign manager Julie Chavez Rodriguez said in a statement.
“We are making sure we are doing everything possible to mobilize our coalition to defeat Donald Trump once and for all.”
All told, Harris’ team has revealed that it raised $615 million since taking over the top of the ticket — calling August “the 2024 cycle’s biggest haul.” The number marks an uptick from last week, when it was reported that her campaign said she had raised $540 million in the space of a little over 30 days since President Biden’s exit.
July was the “biggest grassroots fundraising month in presidential campaign history,” Harris’ camp said, with a $310 million total.
DNC Chair Jaime Harrison stressed voter interest, saying “There’s one thing that has been clear since Vice President Harris entered this race back in July, voters are clearly energized and ready to send her from the White House.”
Harris redoubled her efforts with the August addition of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as a running mate, delivering one of the campaign’s three top grassroots fundraising days to date. Her team also boasted, “five of the top ten grassroots days of the campaign were from August.”
More than three million donors gave to the campaign, with 1.3 million making their first donation of the cycle. Approximately 60% of donors in August were women, while roughly 20% identified as Republicans or Independents.
About 95% of Biden’s donations came from under $200, versus Trump (98%).
A Trump campaign prediction was that Harris would get a boost in the polls, temporarily helping Biden, only to vanish quickly away. Supporters of Harris say the significant fundraising hauls are a sign that she still has wind at her back.
The Harris-Walz campaign — and most likely the DNC as well, although their announcement did not break it down in such a way — is showing financial swagger by putting $25 million into helping send Democratic reinforcements to Congress.
In the meantime, Trump’s campaign is still betting on a win.
“August was yet another record-shattering fundraising month for President Trump, proving his support among the American people is stronger than ever,” Mollie Hemingway, senior editor of The Federalist and AriFlesher.com tweeted early Wednesday afternoon.
Harris will next appear in a debate against Trump scheduled for September 10 in Philadelphia, hosted by ABC News.
