After two police officers were shot in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s (D-NY) district, Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-NY) chided using the very words the Democrat used on Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) amid a fiery exchange during a congressional hearing last month.

In a post on X on Tuesday night, Malliotakis wrote, “Hey Baby Girl. Two cops were shot in your district by an illegal immigrant who we NOW find out is a Venezuelan gang member being housed in a hotel at our constituents’ expense and you still have NOTHING to say about it?? Really?”

Malliotakis tagged Ocasio-Cortez in the post.

She also added a screenshot of a New York Post report stating that sources said that 19-year-old Bernardo Raul Castro Mata, the 19-year-old suspect arrested in the shooting of the two officers, is likely a member of Venezuela’s “bloodthirsty” Tren de Aragua gang as signaled by a tattoo on his body.

The shooting at the center of the issue occurred at about 1:45 a.m. on Monday when New York City Police Department Officers Richard Yarusso and Christopher Abreu were shot at the intersection of 89th Street and 23rd Avenue in the Elmhurst neighborhood of Queens. The two officers had been trying to pull over Castro Mata who was driving a scooter the wrong way.

He, however, fled and shot at the two officers. Luckily, the two officers did not sustain life-threatening injuries and have been released from the hospital. Castro Mata, who was also injured when officers returned fire, reportedly had surgery done on his knee.

According to police, Castro Mata entered the United States illegally last July. Having come in through Eagle Pass, Texas, he stayed at a migrant shelter in East Elmhurst, Queens.

While he has no prior arrests in New York City, Castro Mata is reportedly part of a crew that used motorized scooters to commit crimes.
