Trump supporters expressed their anger over Tom Hanks’ appearance on “SNL50,” where his portrayal of a MAGA supporter was seen as promoting negative stereotypes, according to Joy Behar of The View.

Behar acknowledged that even Democrat supporters could understand the outrage stemming from the show’s unfavorable depiction of Republican voters.

During Sunday’s 50th anniversary special of Saturday Night Live, Hanks reprised his role as Doug, a Trump supporter, in the “Black Jeopardy” segment. The character, which Hanks first portrayed eight years ago, displayed uncomfortable behavior when faced with shaking hands with an African American individual.

Speaking about the controversy, Behar explained, “The fact remains that they’re making anyone who voted for Trump look like a racist, and that’s why they’re mad. I personally would never do that, because I don’t believe that any group is one thing.”

The performance drew criticism from former SNL cast member Victoria Jackson, who shared her disappointment with TMZ. Jackson referenced social media comments from political commentator Link Lauren, who strongly condemned the sketch.

Lauren’s criticism on X stated: “Tom Hanks just came out on ‘SNL’ in a MAGA hat for a bit where he acted like he didn’t want to shake a Black man’s hand. This show wonders why their ratings are in the gutter. Trump won the popular vote. This tired trope that MAGA is racist is disgusting. ‘SNL’ is an unfunny show for snobbish liberal elites. The current Republican Party is a big tent coalition comprised of many former Democrats. Good riddance, ‘SNL!'”
