Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) was called out for hypocrisy after a post he made claiming to “stand with Israel” after Iran’s attack on the Jewish state. His claim was quickly met with attacks from Republican lawmakers, who pointed out how he does not support Israel on the Senate floor and has instead attacked the Middle East country’s leadership amid its war with Hamas.
“As Israel is under attack from Iran, we stand with Israel and its people, and the United States will do everything we can to support Israel’s defense against Iran,” Schumer wrote in a post to X.

Schumer’s claim of support for Israel contradicts his actions in the recent past, as he slammed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a major Senate address last month. He had called for new elections to replace Israel’s government, who he condemned for Israel’s retaliatory operation against Hamas.
The Democrat leader has also shot down the Israel aid bill brought by the House GOP, calling it “deeply flawed” and “a joke.”
Hence, when he made his post on Sunday, Republicans were quick to point out the falsehood in his claim.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) reminded him of how he blocked the Israel aid bill, writing, “Good! Then let’s vote on Monday on the emergency military aid for Israel bill that YOU blocked! And every single Dem senator voted with you. Let’s make it 100-0, that we all stand united with Israel.”

Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) also pointed out Schumer’s opposition to the bill, which would have helped Israel in its fight against the terrorist group Hamas.
“We brought aid for Israel to the Senate floor FOUR TIMES since the unprovoked, brutal attacks on Oct 7th. Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats blocked our efforts every single time,” he wrote, adding, “Actions speak louder than words.”

“Then why did you kill our Israel aid bill, Senator Schumer?” Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) wrote.

Rep. Beth Van Duyne (R-TX) also weighed in, accusing Schumer of holding the pro-Israel aid “hostage” to his “petty politics.”
“It’s been 163 days since @HouseGOP sent Chuck Schumer a standalone aid package to support our ally Israel. As the Biden White House appeases terrorists and undercuts Israel, Schumer is not just complicit, but has also refused to take up this aid package, emboldening Iran to unjustly attack Israel,” she began.
“Senator Schumer, as sirens are sounding in Israel, when will you stop holding aid to Israel hostage to your petty politics?” she added.

For Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-MO), Schumer needs to take two steps to back up his claim of support for Israel.
“1. Retract your call to upend Israeli government in the middle of a war. 2. Call up a vote ASAP on the emergency military aid for Israel bill that YOU blocked,” he wrote.
