Meena Harris, Vice President Kamala Harris’ niece who has used her platform to speak out on issues related to Palestinians as well amid the current situation, reached social media imploring Democratic leaders to do more.
Meena Harris’ Instagram page has attracted more than 700,000 followers. While her fundraising campaign does not refer to Hamas or its October 7 onslaught that sparked the existing hostilities, Harris’ has shown support for the Gaza crisis.
The 39-year-old niece of Kamala Harris, daughter of the Vice Presidential nominee’s sister Maya, turned up at this week’s DNC.
During the conference, Vice President Harris spoke about her backing of Israel, however Meena Harris voiced a contrasting sentiment by posting an image on her Instagram story wearing a pin that said “Democrats for Palestinian rights.”
NBC News said the pin, passed out by undecided delegates who were expressing their anger with President Biden’s backing of Israel, was prominently displayed.
“If they truly cared about the Palestinian people they would be supporting Israel in the fight to destroy Hamas once and for all,” said Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ).
It was a family affair and Meena Harris wasn’t the only one; Vice President Kamala’s stepdaughter, Ella Emhoff has also used her Instagram platform to fundraise for Palestinian Children Relief.
In addition, Emhoff has donated to The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), an organization which the Biden-Harris administration cut funding from early this month due to links with Hamas following the October 7 attack.
