Vice President Kamala Harris faced a wave of criticism on social media after calling for Americans to move beyond the “failed policies” that “we have proven don’t work,” during an address focused on the economy on Wednesday.

Speaking at The Economic Club of Pittsburgh, Harris emphasized her roots in the “middle-class” and laid out proposals aimed at strengthening this group. She outlined her plans, which include increasing the tax break for new small businesses and offering a $25,000 credit to first-time homebuyers, as part of her vision to build a stronger middle-class.

“When the middle class is strong, America is strong. And we can build a stronger middle class,” Harris said. “The American economy is the most powerful force for innovation and wealth creation in human history. We just need to move past the failed policies that we have proven don’t work. And like generations before us, let us be inspired by what is possible,” she continued.

However, Harris’ call to move past “failed policies” quickly became the target of mockery from conservative commentators on social media. Many saw irony in her remarks, as she is part of the current administration.

“Acceptance is the first step,” joked Steve Cortes, a former Trump campaign advisor and Fox News contributor.

“Who wants to tell her?” quipped Redstate columnist Buzz Patterson.

Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon also joined in, writing, “Kamala Harris says we need to move past the failed policies that don’t work. She’s telling us to vote for Trump. Listen to her.”

LibsofTikTok, a conservative commentator, added, “New Trump ad just dropped!”

Representative Troy Nehls, R-Texas, responded, “You’re right. The American people are sick and tired of the Harris-Biden Administration’s failed policies. November can’t come soon enough!”

Stephen L. Miller, host of the Versus Media podcast, commented, “Quite the optics today as Harris is out saying we need to move past failed policies while the old man is on The View saying he delegated everything to her in his administration.”

During her speech, Harris also took a swipe at her 2024 opponent, calling him “one of the biggest losers ever,” echoing a comment President Biden made about Trump earlier in the day while appearing on “The View.”

Polling data shows Harris trailing Trump on key issues such as the economy and inflation. In an effort to close that gap, Harris has increasingly made the economy a central focus of her recent public remarks.
