The Daily Wire has exclusively obtained documents showing that the Biden-Harris Defense Department “has spent millions in taxpayer funds” on diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) initiatives – including career advancement programs specifically based on race – within the U.S. military.
The documents, obtained by the Functional Government Initiative (FGI), reveal that the Department of Defense has actively sought to incorporate leftwing race-based ideology into its military ranks using academic institutions and even consulting firms.
This would entail the use of taxpayer dollars to fund outside organizations that created hiring pipelines prioritized by race and sex, consulted on DEI policy in government, and grappled with resistance from within the state or publicly surrounding these policies.
The contracts signal the continuing efforts by the Biden-Harris administration to emphasize DEI requirements on federal procurement and elsewhere in government—including within military space.
Critics charge the focus on ideology harms military readiness, and risks preventing some Americans from wanting to join during a current recruitment crisis thus threatening national security.
The Functional Government Initiative chided the Pentagon for prioritizing a political agenda above military readiness.
“The U.S. and its allies are facing challenges and threats all over the globe. Despite the increased concern for military preparedness, the DOD continues to prioritize DEI initiatives,” FGI spokesman Peter McGinnis said.
This was not merely the case with encouraging its own personnel to engage in DEI, but by funding academic institutions to build career pipelines that excluded men and white people on the basis of their sex/race.
“Rather than maximizing readiness training to ensure a capable military, the DOD’s training seems calculated to foster sowing internal discord with aggressive efforts to promote controversial ideologies,” McGinnis added. “Americans join the military to serve their nation and protect the homeland, not to sit through sensitivity training. The DOD owes them better.”
After a Department of the Navy initiative awarded $760,000 to the University of Missouri Kansas City for a program designed to build programs that would give non-whites and women an advantage in STEM careers within vacant Defense Department jobs. The program was intentionally designed by its creators to discriminate against applicants on the basis of their sex and race.
“To meet our equity-focused programmatic goals, campus internship selection will be equitable such that qualified applicants from underserved and underrepresented cohorts … will be provided first choice,” the designers said.
The Biden-Harris administration has been systematically placing the far-left DEI agenda into every nook and cranny of federal power, from military and intelligence to broad-based bureaucracy. As The Daily Wire covered before, under the leftwing administration, the Pentagon asked for nearly $270 million of taxpayer money over 2022 to 2024, so that they could further push their DEI agenda.
Multiple executive orders-signed into law by President Joe Biden-institutionalize the leftwing doctrine, while federal agencies under his control are focusing on aiding gender transition attempts amongst government employees and banning people from using anatomically correct pronouns in this process as well.
Former President Donald Trump has promised to remake the bureaucracy in a second term through executive orders, seeking fewer workers in the administrative state and weeding out those he perceives might slow-walk his policy agenda.
